A 48 minute video tutorial that will teach you using pastels to paint sand dunes, water, shadows and foliage. I will demonstrate techniques, advise on colour and give guidance at every stage.
During this tutorial you will learn how to create undulating dunes, how to capture the light and creeping shadows through the dunes.
I will show you how to create different types of foliage and scrubby undergrowth and when to blend and when to restrain to create crisp, colourful paintings.
For this demonstration I have chosen my painting “Wind Swept” which was inspired by the the seaside town of Yanchep, this dune is on the entry to “Ders” a local surf spot.

For this demonstration I have chosen my painting “Turquoise Bay” inspired by of course Turquoise Bay, located in Exmouth, this is a fabulous beach for snorkling. You head into the water at one end and the current pushes you round to the end of the bay, then you have to get out and walk back up the beach to do it all again. It’s fabulous!
